UGLIES
Uglies is the first book of the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. The second book is Pretties and the third is Specials. It's about a world in which everyone has an operation when they turn sixteen, making them supermodel beautiful. Big eyes, full lips, no one fat or skinny. It takes place about three centuries in the future, where our way of life has changed dramatically.
Part One
Uglies starts out with a teenage girl named Tally Youngblood lying in bed. Tally is lying in bed thinking about her friend Peris. Peris had turned sixteen earlier and had turned pretty before her. All the new pretties, such as Peris, and Tally when she turns pretty, will move to New Pretty Town, which is a section of the city across a river, with Uglyville on the other side (where Tally resides). She brushes her teeth (by chewing a "toothbrush pill", showing how far in the future they are) and then shoved an old portable heater under her bed. She described the heater to produce as much heat as a "Tally sized human being". This is most likely to make others believe she is is still sleeping, because next she crawls out her window.
