SM MEGAMALL
SM Megamall is currently the third largest shopping mall in the Philippines. It is located in Mandaluyong City, and owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings under the management of Henry Sy, a Chinese immigrant to the Philippines.
The mall was inaugurated in June 1991. It was built on 105,000 square meters of land. It has a gross floor area of 331,679 square meters and is 5 stories high. The mall boasts about 550 retailers, service shops, and dining outlets, while its 12 film theatres have a combined seating capacity of 11,074. Its outdoor and indoor parking areas can accommodate about 3,000 cars. It currently has the country's first ice skating rink (which has a unique distinction of having a large supporting post of the building in the middle of the rink).
The status of SM Megamall as the biggest Philippine shopping mall was lost upon the inauguration of the SM Mall of Asia, also owned by SM Prime Holdings, which opened on May 21, 2006. SM Megamall is now the 16th largest mall in the world.
