ECTOMORPHIC

It has been suggested that this article or section be merged into somatotype. (Discuss)

Ectomorphic is one of the three classic somatotypes or body types created by William Sheldon (the other two being Endomorphic and Mesomorphic).

The physique of an ectomorph is centered around the brain and nerves, with little fat or musculature. Consequently these people are slim and often underweight. Examples of ectomorphs would be marathon runners, swimmers, some basketball players, and fashion models. Generally speaking, people with ectomorphic bodies have a hard time gaining weight and building muscle mass.

According to reasearch by Sheldon, the ectomorphic person is likely to have a cerebrotonic temperament and could be described as artistic, sensitive, apprehensive, introverted, socially restrained, and highly self-aware.
